The CIRCE (Cooperative Internet-of-Data Rural-alpine Community Environment) project, granted by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), consist in the creation of an ICT platform to acquire, store and manage meteorological, hydrological and agrometeorological data (both real time fluxes and historical datasets). Those data will be gathered by integrating several separate environmental monitoring networks managed by project partners (CNR-IMAMOTER, CNR-IRPI, Politecnico di Torino- DIST, EnviCons Srl, Impresa Verde Cuneo Srl, 3a Srl) used for research purposes and hydrogeological protection, soil conservation, water management and crop protection.
The hydrometeorological and agrometeorological data management platform will be directly connected with the recently developed smartdatanet data platform, created by the Regione Piemonte in collaboration with CSI Piemonte. By allowing to access and use the data with and open access approach it will be possible to enhance the knowledge base available to public administrations, citizens and companies, hence improving governmental policies and management and, more in general fostering information sharing for the creation of smarter and more sustainable communities.
Data fluxes will be uploaded to the smartdatanet platform from the Internet of Things (such as agrometeorological and meteorological stations), and from the Internet of People (such as Tweets, images, videos, etc.) that can be acquired through a smartphone.
The network will integrate several monitoring stations distributed over the Regione Piemonte territory and managed by CNR and DIST to conduct researches on soil conservation, water management and hydrogeological protection:
4 stations managed by CNR-IMAMOTER;
2 monitoring sites managed by CNR-IRPI;
3 stations managed by DIST.
The network will also include the stations managed by the SMEs participating in the project:
5 hydrometeorological stations owned by the Provincia di Biella Public Authority;
2 meteorological stations managed by EnviCons Srl;
2 hydrological stations managed by EnviCons Srl;
20 agrometeorological stations managed by 3a Srl and Impresa Verde Cuneo Srl.
Another part of the CIRCE project will consist in the development of a custom app to allow the upload of photos, videos and other obervations acquired in real time from a network of users that will integrate the data fluxes from the automatic monitoring stations.
